Explain the development law of space frame structure in detail

 The development of the space frame structure is closely linked to the needs of life and production, the level of science and technology, and the development of material conditions. Reviewing the development process of the  structure, we can summarize some development laws of it.

The span of the space frame structure is getting bigger and bigger.From St. Peter’s Basilica in Ancient Rome to the "Millennium Dome" in London, England,its diameter has been expanded from 42m to 320m.Behind every innovation and development of the space frame structure, it is accompanied by the continuous increase of the span of the building.In recent years, more and more buildings have been built or under construction that exceed the span of the hectometer, and various forms of space frame structures have developed to super-span structures.For example, the span of the polyhedral space frame of my country's National Aquatics Center "Water Cube" reached 177m, and the span of the slightly curved space frame of the National "Bird's Nest" Stadium reached 330m.

The space frame structure develops towards light weight. With the increase of the span of this structure, the influence of the self-weight of the structure on the span becomes more and more obvious.Through the development process of space frame structure such as thin shell structure, space frame structure, reticulated shell structure, suspension cable structure and membrane structure, the weight of the structure is getting lighter and lighter.The reduction from 6400kg/m2 of the masonry dome to 10kg/m2 of the membrane structure reflects the rapid progress of the building structure.

From a single structure to a combined hybrid structure. The materials and structural forms used in the early structural forms were relatively simple. With the development of the space frame structure, a variety of materials are combined with each other, and a variety of components are hybridized with each other, complement each other, and develop into a variety of combined structures and hybrid structures.
